You are not alone. LGBTQ+ people experience sexual abuse too, and we know that it can feel difficult to reach out for support. At Stepping Stones North Wales, we offer confidential, inclusive counselling for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in a safe and supportive environment.

You do not need to be “out” to access support, and your identity will always be respected.

Support for LGBTQ+ Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

A safe and inclusive space

We recognise that LGBTQ+ survivors may face additional barriers to seeking support, including stigma, discrimination, or past negative experiences with services. You deserve to be listened to, believed, and supported without judgement.

Our counsellors are trained in trauma-informed practice and work in an inclusive, affirming way. You do not need to explain or justify who you are — we respect your identity and your experiences.

You are not alone

Many LGBTQ+ people experience sexual abuse, though it is often underreported.

  • Abuse can happen in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood.

  • It can be caused by people of any gender or sexuality.

  • The impact can include anxiety, depression, shame, relationship difficulties, or feeling disconnected from your body or identity.

  • There is no “right way” to feel after abuse.

How we can support you

Our counselling service offers:

  • Free, confidential counselling for adult survivors (18+)

  • One-to-one sessions with trained counsellors

  • Trauma-informed, survivor-led support

  • A non-judgemental and LGBTQ+ inclusive approach

  • Support at your own pace

You are in control of what you share and when.

You do not need a GP referral. You can refer yourself directly.

Common questions LGBTQ+ survivors ask

“Was it really abuse?”
If something happened that made you feel unsafe, pressured, or unable to consent, your experience matters and you deserve support.

“It happened a long time ago — is it too late?”
No. Many survivors seek support years later. Healing is still possible.

“It happened years ago.”
Many men seek support decades later. Healing is still possible.

“What if I’m not sure I want counselling?”
That’s okay. You can explore information and take things at your own pace.

You deserve support

Seeking help can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve been carrying this alone. You don’t have to go through it without support. We’re here to listen, and we’ll meet you where you are.
