Stepping Stones North Wales is a specialist service providing trauma-informed counselling and support to individuals affected by Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA). We are committed to delivering safe, ethical and high-quality therapeutic services — and we are looking for a compassionate, skilled and motivated Deputy Clinical Counselling Lead to join our Senior Leadership Team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced counsellor or psychotherapist to play a key role in supporting the development of our counselling team and helping shape the future of our service.

About the Role

As Deputy Clinical Counselling Lead, you will play a key role in supporting the management, coordination and development of our counselling services. Working closely with the Clinical Counselling Lead, you will help ensure that our therapeutic work meets the highest professional and ethical standards.

You will support counsellors through guidance, consultation and collaborative working, contribute to training and development, and help maintain safe and effective systems for client care. You will also support safeguarding and risk matters within agreed delegated responsibilities, represent the organisation in external partnerships, and contribute to strategic planning as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting the oversight of clinical work to ensure alignment with the BACP Ethical Framework and/or equivalent professional standards

• Supporting the Clinical Counselling Lead with safeguarding and risk matters within agreed delegated responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one support, guidance and professional consultation to counsellors

• Contributing to training programmes and quarterly development days

• Supporting service evaluation and quality improvement

• Helping maintain safe, respectful and effective systems for client care

• Assisting with the recruitment, induction and probation of counsellors

• Supporting our Next Steps service and contributing to ongoing service development

• Maintaining and developing external relationships with partner agencies and referral organisations

• Supporting the Clinical Counselling Lead in contributing to strategic planning and service development

• Deputising for the Clinical Counselling Lead as agreed and within delegated responsibilities

About You

We’re looking for someone who is grounded, collaborative and passionate about delivering high-quality therapeutic support. You will bring clinical experience, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to trauma-informed practice.

Person Secification

Essential

• Qualified counsellor/psychotherapist with relevant accreditation or working towards accreditation

• Experience providing counselling within a trauma-informed or specialist support setting

• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk management

• Understanding of the BACP Ethical Framework and/or equivalent professional standards

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

• Experience supporting or mentoring practitioners

Desirable

• Experience in service coordination or team leadership

• Experience contributing to training or professional development

• Experience within the voluntary or specialist support sector

• Welsh language skills
